It was an overcast day and all but one of us arrived in good time for the match. Aumran had the customary 3 jumpers on. Adam being our overseas player arrived after the 6th over of the match. Gradually he is gaining more of our hallmarks of someone who originates from the sub continent. Sooner or later you will be able to find a decorative tissue box holder in his car and his house carpet lined with see through lino for protection.
Looking to build on our start we decided to do a warm up session. Aumran being the proud owner of the entire Jane Fonda workout video collection decided to take us through his regime. It was funny how we had a disproportionate number of injuries during this match. Athar pulled a hamstring, I had a calf cramp and Charly lost all forms of co-ordination thru the innings resulting in him getting concussion as the ball bobbled and hit him in the head.
Our bowling and fielding performance was nothing to write home about. With several drops the amassed 245 for 6 off 47.5 over’s.
Our batting was little better. Aumran, Adam and Atif were competing for who could get the most dot balls. Even Sammy with a quick 43 before being bowled could not get us back into the game. When we got to 32 overs it was clear that we were not going to get to the required target. At this point the aim was not to get beaten and block out the next 15 overs. To our credit we managed to do this ending up on 155 for 8. In times gone past we would have collapsed and lost this match rather than getting the losing draw.
